Crushed concrete is in our opinion the best base/road material out there, but it's also the most expensive. It compacts better than shell and dries out faster, so you don't have to wait for it to dry out before you pave or pour on it.

Base shell is still a great base and the most widely used base because of its price compared to others. Used on large jobs because it cuts the cost and still performs great. Some shell will have clay in it which may cause cracking in the asphalt above it.

Washed shell is just regular base shell with all of the dirt washed out leaving a nice clean shell. It is used on unpaved parking lots and sidewalks where concrete or asphalt can't be used.
